GENERAL CONDITIONS AND NOTES - Livestock

HEIFERS AND COWS – in-calf or in-milk

As a precaution and safeguard to other animals at the show, DEFRA insists upon the following regulations:

(a) Cows and Heifers calving at full term on the showground before the time of judging will be placed in isolation to be returned to the premises of origin as soon as practicable.  It is regretted that, because of the high cost of housing, the entry fees will not be refunded.

(b) Cows and Heifers calving at full term on the showground after judging will be placed in isolation to be returned to the premises of origin as soon as practicable.

(c) Abnormal discharge, abortions and premature calving.  Cows and Heifers showing any abnormal discharge or which are about to abort on or after arrival at the showground will be placed in isolation at once and will not be allowed to compete.  Animals in isolation to be returned to the premises of origin as soon as possible except where abortion is suspected.  In such cases, an abortion enquiry will be carried out before the animals are removed from the showground.  A range of samples will be collected by a local veterinary inspector acting on behalf of the society or a veterinary officer of the Ministry of Agriculture.  There will be on charge made to the exhibitor for the taking of samples.  Arrangements must be made for any animal subjected to an abortion/premature calving enquiry and any other animal at the show originating from the same herd to be returned to the premises of origin as soon as practicable.

CROSS-BRED BUTCHERS BEEF CATTLE AND BUTCHERS BEEF COMPETITIONS. 

Entries will be accepted from all herds.

NOMINATION ENTRIES ARE NOT ACCEPTED

EAR NUMBERS. It is a requirement of the DEFRA that ear numbers are given at the time of entry, printed in the show catalogue and checked on the showground.  Therefore, ear numbers must be given on the entry form for all cattle entered STEWARDS WILL CHECK THE IDENTIFICATION OF EVERY ANIMAL AT THE SHOW AND WHERE APPROPRIATE, CERTIFICATES MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE SHOW WITH THE CATTLE.

BULL HANDLING Exhibitors attention is drawn to the Health and Safety Executive rule on Bull Handling. Further information may be obtained from the Health & Safety Executive, 1st Floor, St Andrews House, 48 Princess Rd East, Leicester.

MAEDI VISNA ACCREDITED SHEEP

Exhibitors with accredited sheep must indicate this status on the entry form. All MV accredited sheep must be accompanied with a VALID green SAC Certificate of Status (To be VALID, the SAC Certificate must be within the expiry date shown in the top line of the Certificate, details of animals entered, signed and dated by the exhibitor. The valid Certificate must be presented on arrival at the Showground before the sheep can be allowed entry into the Maedi Visna Accredited Sheep section.  Sheep from MV accredited flocks are not required to be tested prior to movement to the Show nor will they need to be privately blood tested on return to the farm as approved segregation facilities exist at the show.  However, any MV accredited sheep which come into contact with non-MV accredited sheep must be kept isolated upon return to the accredited holding. BYE-LAWS. Applicable to the RUTLAND AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

GENERAL

1. Admission and Privileges.
(a)Vice-presidents and Life Members. Free admission to the Show. Free admission for a partner.  Admission to the Members Enclosure with partners badge also giving free admission to the Members enclosure. The right to make entries at a reduced fee. (b)Members. (Annual subscribers of £20.00 or £30.00 for joint-Membership) Free admission to the Show for members and free entry to the Members Enclosure. The right to make entries at a reduced fee.

2. Parking of Vehicles. Official car parks will be provided and vehicles will be parked at owners risk. No vehicles of any description will be allowed to stand anywhere on the Showground other than in the regulation parking places.

LIVESTOCK and GENERAL.

3. Entries.  All classes are open

4. Closing date for entries.  As entry forms.

5. Completion of Entry Forms. All entry forms for livestock must be fully and clearly completed to show the name and address of the exhibitor and breeder, a description of the animal, date of birth and, as appropriate, details of pedigree and ear-mark number.  The Society will accept no liability for the accuracy of any description or particulars in the catalogue.

All exhibitors will be required to complete the entry statement, and complete entry form for every animal in each class.  The ages of all animals shall be calculated up to the date of the show, unless otherwise stated, and all livestock must be on the showground and penned by 8.30am.  Nomination entries will not be accepted.

6. Entry Fees.  Entries shall be made at the fees stated.  All entry forms must be accompanied by the appropriate fees and cheques should be made payable to the “RUTLAND AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY”

7. Return of Entry Fees. Entry fees are not returnable except where entries are refused or cancelled.  Monies will be only be refunded, less an administration fee upon the receipt of an S.A.E.

8. Cancellation of Classes. The Committee reserves the right to refuse or cancel any entry, class or section.  Any class throughout the schedule with less than four entries may be cancelled.  Judging times may be altered at the discretion of the judge/stewards.

9. GRAND PARADE. Champions and reserve Champions must take part in the Grand Parade, otherwise cups and prize money will be forfeited.

10. Substitution. The substitution of entries after the published closing date is not permitted.

11. Goats. Covered accommodation will be provided for goats but bedding, must be provided by the exhibitor.

12. Trade Stand space. Allocation and positioning of trade stand space shall be dealt with at the discretion of the Committee of the Society.  It shall be within the power of the committee to order the rejection or amendment of any application and adjustment of the fees paid.

13. Arrival and Departure of Stock.  All exhibits are to be penned by 8.30am and no exhibits to leave until after the Grand Parade, except by veterinary discretion.

14.  Objections.  In the event of any dispute in livestock/horse classes, written details should be lodged with the Secretary together with £20.00.  The matter will then be considered and the decision of the Committee shall be final.

15. Judging. All classes are judged in accordance to the relevant Breed Society Rules

17.  Improper Conduct. Any Exhibitor or Exhibitor’s employee, or any member of the general public, who conducts himself in an improper or offensive manner to any Judge, Member of the Committee, Steward or Official, shall be reported to the Chairman. He may be refused entry to the Show Ground, may not be allowed to compete in that Class or further Classes and may have no monies refunded. He may not be allowed to renew his subscription or enter any future Shows until re-admitted by the Committee.

18.  Ownership of Livestock Exhibits. All livestock must have been the bona fide property of the Exhibitor for 60 days prior to the Show.
